Dean’s Welcome

Welcome to the School of Philosophy, Zhejiang University! 

The School of Philosophy at Zhejiang University was established in November 2021, but before that, philosophy had a history of over a hundred years at Zhejiang University. Our first dean, Prof. Xie Youwei, founded the Philosophy Department of Zhejiang University in 1947. He studied under the philosopher Alfred Whitehead at Harvard University. 

At present, our School of Philosophy shares an international reputation in the academic circles for its Phenomenology, Philosophy of Science and Logic, Chinese Philosophy, especially the study of Wang Yangming.

The School has built interdisciplinary platforms such as the Academy of Future Philosophy and Zhejiang University – University of Luxembourg Joint Lab on Advanced Intelligent Systems and REasoning(ZLAIRE). The related research on the science and technology, philosophy of artificial intelligence, language and cognition, and engineering ethics has formed a distinctive label of the School.

We have been dedicated to international cooperation and now aims to be one of the most vigorous schools in Zhejiang University that fosters global interdisciplinary collaboration.
